Success Story
Equity, Access, Growth
Our dedicated team of activists is working to address the pressing disparities in Black maternal and infant health.
Their coalition is the backbone organization for SPA 6 & 8, and their mission is to ensure that every Black mother and infant in Los Angeles receives the quality care, support, and opportunities they deserve.
Knowledge Encourages Self-Advocacy
Our community workshops and awareness campaigns empower Black mothers with knowledge, reducing misinformation and improving decision-making during pregnancy and childbirth.
Street Medicine TEAM!
We successfully mobilized grassroots support within the Black faith community, organizing small events and virtual support groups fostering solidarity through shared experiences and self-advocacy for lasting change.
Bring Technology to the Community
Recognizing the importance of data, we researched to collect and analyze data on maternal and infant health among Black families.
Designing data-informed, evidence based recommendations for policymakers to lobby for changes and healthcare improvements.
Cheryl A. Branch
Executive Director, Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches
Founded in 1995, Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches is a California non-profit organization. We are not a church. We are people of various faiths, and we work together to change conditions for whoever needs it the most—year to year. LAM works for racial, social, and economic justice through grassroots organizations and subject matter experts.
LAM provides non-profit intermediary services to small organizations: fiscal agent service, program development, technical assistance, compliance, and access to capital/financial literacy education classes.
We also facilitate transformational leadership, community development, and community research. Our constituency uses our information to create change and improve families and youth in Los Angeles, California, and worldwide.
We are training a new generation of leaders. We co-sponsor an annual coding competition for high school students with cash prizes. We are survivors and not victims.

Our amazing team of clergy, ministry leaders and spiritual counselors, volunteers, subject experts, everyday residents, businesses, and property owners are committed to helping our community flourish.
Guided by moral and ethical convictions, we share a bond that works for winning campaigns and building publicly skilled leaders.
LAM is a member-led community organization working for racial, health, economic justice through grassroots organizing, leadership development, and community-building in Los Angeles, California.
A team of younger organizers drives part of our work which promotes art, culture, and political education as an essential part of rebuilding the foundation of the Black community

Wright, Jr., Pastor Emeritus Trinity United Church of Christ Chicago,
Seeing a need for energetic, non-profit work in criminal justice reform, a group of South Central LA-based pastors formed LAM to provide sensible solutions to ending mass incarceration through existing prison ministries. Formerly incarcerated are today referred to as returning citizens. An entire movement was birthed by a small group of committed faith-based men and women in South LA. The day-to-day business of the church boosts the need for an intermediary 501(c)(3) to handle the administrative details and became standard operating procedures in 2002. It changed the landscape of human services in Los Angeles and in the Black community forever.
Each year LAM grows in its family of outreach programs & community services:
Faith in Action!
Your support and contributions help us act collectively, protect grassroots values, promote civic engagement and movement building across race and class. Your contributions create jobs and access to capital for black-led nonprofit organizations and small business founders. We mentor formerly incarcerated adults and youth; we mentor new leaders in health and social equity. We work with black history experts and artists to develop programs for populations most harmed by the war on drugs and especially people living in South LA, the City of Watts, and Unincorporated Willowbrook, Westmont/West Athens. We sponsor afterschool programs, health ministries, community health ambassadors, young investigators, social enterprises, healing services for male victims of crime, homeless women, families, and young adults.
