OUR FOUNDER

As we celebrate our 30th Anniversary, we reflect with deep respect and heartfelt gratitude on the life and legacy of our founder, Rev. Eugene Williams, who passed away in April 2012 at the age of 52 from lung cancer.

Rev. Williams founded Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches (LAM) in the 1990s, driven by his vision of empowering small and mid-sized African American churches to become forces for social change. His background in community organizing, shaped by his family's activism in Philadelphia, informed his approach to addressing critical issues such as mass incarceration, poverty, and educational inequity.

As we continue our mission, let us draw inspiration from Rev. Williams' dedication and innovative approach to faith-based community organizing. His legacy lives on through our ongoing work and the many organizations he influenced.
